HIKER TRASH ZEN MONK (HT30008) | Split-Toe Merino Wool Trail Socks
Japanese-made merino wool trail socks with a split-toe design for hiking, bikepacking, sandals, and everyday wear.
The HIKER TRASH ZEN MONK was developed from the experience of long-distance hikers and combines a split-toe construction with a merino wool-rich fabric.
By separating the big toe, the design allows the toes to move more freely. It can be worn with trail shoes as well as compatible split-toe sandals, making it suitable for journeys that combine walking, cycling, and time off the bike.
The fabric is made with 79% machine-washable merino wool. Its moisture-managing, insulating, antibacterial, and odor-resistant properties are combined with nylon for improved abrasion resistance.
A pile-knit sole provides cushioning and flexible stretch. The three-dimensional heel construction helps reduce unwanted movement, while integrated arch support provides a secure fit during extended periods of walking. A relaxed knit and special stretch yarns help the socks fit without excessive compression.
In abrasion testing, the toe and heel reached approximately 3,300 cycles, while the sole reached approximately 2,800 cycles. The ZEN MONK is suitable for hiking, bikepacking, cycling trips, sandals, and everyday use.
A prototype was field-tested during an approximately 5,000 km journey along the Continental Divide Trail in 2017. The design was later used on routes including the John Muir Trail and New Zealand’s Great Walks, with feedback from the field contributing to further refinements.
A carabiner hole is built into the cuff. Inspired by long-distance hikers who hang wet socks from backpacks or tents, it provides a practical way to carry or air-dry the socks.
