Trail Bum BUMMER | A Lightweight 30L Pack Rooted in the Origins of Ultralight Backpacking
A made-in-Japan UL backpack reduced to the functions that matter most on the trail.
The Trail Bum BUMMER is based on the brand’s signature Steady pack and further simplifies its construction to reduce weight.
Its minimalist design consists of a streamlined main body, large front and side mesh pockets, and wide shoulder straps. Rather than relying on complex features or specialized main fabrics, the pack achieves a body weight of just 320g through its straightforward construction.
The 30L capacity is suitable for day hikes, carefully planned multi-day UL trips, bicycle travel, and everyday use. Total weight is 370g including the 50g back pad.
The wide shoulder straps are designed with carefully considered width, thickness, and urethane foam cushioning. They distribute weight across a broader area to support comfortable carrying with lightweight hiking loads.
A large soft-mesh pocket on the front provides accessible storage for shelters, rain gear, and other items that may need to be kept outside the main compartment. The mesh was selected with an emphasis on resistance to UV degradation rather than maximum stretch.
Large side pockets use the same soft mesh. Each side can hold two bottles and is shaped for easier access while the pack is being worn.
The BUMMER omits a chest strap to maintain its simple construction. Its understated appearance also works naturally in urban settings, while its made-in-Japan production reflects Trail Bum’s careful approach to manufacturing.
